The Philosopher's Path
About 15 minutes away by bicycle from Guesthouse Chayama is The Philosopher's Path (哲学の道, Tetsugaku no michi). This is a pleasant stone pathway which meanders through the northern part of Kyoto's Higashiyama district. It follows a canal which is lined by hundreds of sakura trees. Towards the end of the path, a beautiful aqueduct can be seen next to the world famous Nanzen-ji Zen Temple.

Along the nearby Eizan railway line you can easily access the stunning temples of Mt. Hiei and the picturesque villages of Kibune, Kurama and Ohara in the Northern Mountains. These villages are beautiful in every season. You can also visit the famous Kurama Onsen and fully relax during your stay.
